Setup

How it works

  1. 01

Install Xaar on the console. Launch it — the Xbox starts advertising itself as an AirPlay target on your network.

  2. 02

Mirror from your device. On an iPhone, iPad, or Mac: open Control Center → Screen Mirroring and pick the Xbox. The screen appears on the TV, decoded in hardware — video streams carry their sound too.

  3. 03

Pick your speakers. Choose an AirPlay 2 speaker in Xaar's menu and switch on the lipsync delay. Audio goes to the speakers; the video is held back to match the audio latency, so nothing drifts out of sync.

Why Xaar

What makes it different

TV speakers are the weakest part of most living rooms, while excellent AirPlay 2 speakers already stand right there. If an Xbox is under the TV, the hardware exists — Xaar is the missing app.

Speaker output

Audio out to AirPlay 2 speakers

Other Xbox mirroring apps only receive a stream and play it on the TV. Xaar also sends the audio onward — from any AirPlay sender — to AirPlay 2 speakers such as Sonos.

The killer feature

Lip-grade sync

AirPlay 2 schedules audio playback at exact timestamps, so the bulk of the speaker latency is known by protocol. Xaar holds the video back to match — mouths match words — with a fine trim for the speaker's and TV's own fixed output lag.

Volume sync

One volume, every knob

Change the volume on the Mac, in Xaar's menu, or on the speaker itself — every control stays in sync, including the Mac's own volume slider.

Performance

Hardware video decoding

The mirroring stream is decoded by the console's hardware decoder — smooth playback without draining the CPU.

Zero setup

Speakers optional

No AirPlay 2 speakers? The audio simply plays on the TV with the picture — Xaar is a solid plain AirPlay receiver on its own.

Privacy

Local network only

No accounts, no analytics, no tracking. The stream goes from your device to your Xbox to your speakers and nowhere else.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Does Xbox support AirPlay natively?

No. Xbox consoles have no built-in AirPlay support. A receiver app from the Microsoft Store, such as Xaar, adds it: the app runs on the console and shows up as an AirPlay target on your Mac.

What do I need to use Xaar?

An Xbox (One or Series X|S) and an iPhone, iPad, or Mac on the same local network. AirPlay 2 speakers (such as Sonos) are optional — without them the audio plays on the TV.

How does Xaar keep video and speaker audio in sync?

Xaar sends audio to the speakers over AirPlay 2, which schedules playback at exact timestamps, so most of the audio latency is known rather than guessed. With the lipsync delay enabled, Xaar holds the video back to match, and a trim setting covers the speaker's and TV's own fixed output lag.

How do I control the speaker volume?

From wherever is closest: the volume keys on the Mac, the volume row in Xaar's menu, or the speaker's own knob or app. Xaar syncs them in both directions — turn the speaker's knob and the Mac's volume slider moves to match.

How much does Xaar cost?

Xaar is a one-time purchase on the Microsoft Store — no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads. There are also no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking: all traffic stays on your local network.
